FINE ARTS EDUCATION

FINE ARTS  – Seven years Art teacher. Taught Art I, Animation, Digital Imaging and Photography courses. As an administrator, I doubled the size of Art and Music departments emphasizing importance of a well rounded high school experience through fine arts education. Successfully expanded curricular offerings to include:

ART
Although you might not know it, you’ve probably seen a lot of art produced by Lane Tech students. That’s because our artists have been celebrated city and nation-wide. Lane Tech students have designed the Chicago city parking sticker, have been featured on the cover of the Advanced Placement poster, have displayed hundreds of gold-medal works at the Museum of Science and Industry, are chosen to present work every year at the Museum of Contemporary Art and the LaSalle Bank building, and have been featured on posters promoting the All-City Art Show and the Latino Art Beat National Competition.

A few years ago, a student made international headlines while at Lane when Brad Pitt purchased her painting to include in his private collection. This exceptional tradition of achievement in the Lane Tech art program has attracted the attention of the best art schools in the country. Our graduates have gone on to attend RISD, Cooper Union, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Maryland Institute of the Arts, Minneapolis College of Arts, and many more. In addition, the many colleges looking to recruit Lane Tech artists have offered hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships in the last few years alone.

Along with incredibly talented students, Lane Tech has the courses and resources that make it the best choice for the arts in Chicago. The art facilities include a modern computer graphics lab, digital and dark-room photography, two ceramics studio lofts with throwing wheels and kilns, traditional painting and drawing studios, print-making equipment, and a publication lab where our award-winning yearbook is produced.

Lane Tech College Prep is proud to say that our Art Department is expanding and that we have five new Fine Arts Education teachers for the 2012/13 school year. All five newly hired teachers are experts in various mediums ranging from oil painting, drawing, printmaking, pastels, sculpture, graphic design, 2D and 3D art, and together they make Lane Tech Art Program the richest and the most desired program in Chicago. In addition to offering courses required for Lane Tech Art majors, we are looking forward to seeing many exciting electives offered by these teachers, that will be introduced in the following school year as well.
