BUILDING OPERATIONS

Managed daily operations and capital improvement projects for a 720,000 square foot school to provide a safe and orderly environment for the staff and students.

Regularly met and led meetings with CPS facilities staff, capital improvement project teams, vendors engineers, building operations manager and maintenance crew .

Worked with the Mayors office and CPS facilities to ensure and oversee a $65,000,000 capital improvement project set to be completed in 2017.

The beginning of the school year marks the completion of Lane Tech’s 3-year construction renovation project. At $56.7M, this project is the largest capital renovation project that our school has undergone since it was built in 1934. The building envelope was completely overhauled with all new roofing, windows, and masonry work, making it completely watertight. In addition to the 3 new science labs, toilet room renovations, and the greenhouse elevator that we completed last summer, we painted the entire school, replaced all the broken floor tile, and added air conditioning to all classrooms this summer.  We will continue to see minor construction work through the fall as the general contractor completes their punch list, such as skylight work on the 4th floor.

By the numbers:

·         Replaced 2,566 windows

·         Replaced 91 exterior doors

·         Installed over 160 new window air conditioners

·         Replaced 200,000 square feet of roofing (enough to cover 4 football fields!)

·         Replaced 44,000 square feet of the building’s original slate roof

·         Tuckpointed over 900,000 lineal feet of brick mortar

·         Replaced over 1 million bricks

·         Repaired and replaced almost 9,000 in pieces of architectural terracotta

·         Painted the interior of the entire building, using over 7000 gallons of paint (enough to fill a tanker truck!)
